Tamales

In this neighborhood, tamales cost one dollar.

I live on a wonderfully crazy street in Los Angeles. I’ve had people tell me it’s the busiest street they’d ever seen in LA. There is a tamale delivery service on our block…not like an organized, Google directory-certified service or one of those Taquito buses you see parked everywhere…but a man driving a white Nissan Sentra, like a messenger from Huey Tecuhuit, crying “Tamales!! Champurrados!! Tamales!!” At first they cost two dollars. This morning I bought three and they cost a dollar each. Every morning at 8 o’clock and every evening at 8 0′clock this man comes around.

Many things make me happy in this world. The Tamale Man is one of them.

  1. If you bought three in the morning and three in the evening, you’re probably one of the many things that make the Tamale Man happy too. That’s a wonderful arrangement, I think. ;)
